What do I do now...
Call
(not email or text) the funeral home
What should I know when I call?
- The full legal name of the person who has died
- The location where the person is now; at home, a hospital, hospice, long-term care or assisted living, the medical examiner's office, New England Donor Services
- Your name, how you are related to the person who died, and the best contact number for you
- Any information that will help us better help your family: Is your home hard to find? Do you want us to respond immediately or shall we set a time to arrive so you have more time? Was this an expected or unexpected death? Do we need extra personnel or equipment if the person is large or located in a difficult spot.
Many decisions must be made about the type of services you'd like the funeral home to provide.
Some can wait but there are others that will need to be made fairly quickly so the director can plan what happens after the transfer to the funeral home.
