Bushell, Joseph F. Acton Funeral Home, date of death August 29, 2010 age 91, of Acton, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth "Dolly" (Sullivan) Bushell, who died in 1986. Born in Fall River and raised in Watertown, he was the only child of the late John and Margaret (Walsh) Bushell. Mr. Bushell with his family moved to Mishawaka, Indiana, where he graduated from high school. He served honorably as a Captain in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, and received a Purple Heart during the Guadalcanal Campaign. After his military service, Mr. Bushell earned a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a master's from Boston University. He and his wife Dolly were married in 1949, settling in Acton in 1955. Employed as a forecaster and supervisor for New England Telephone before retiring, he liked golfing with his friends and was a former member of the Maynard Country Club. He also was a former member of the Acton Lions Club, and volunteered many hours at the Emerson Hospital in Concord. He enjoyed reading, and especially loved time spent with his family. He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Veleno of Stow, Nancy Roberts of Acton, and Jane Lee of Lexington; two grandchildren, Melissa Roberts and Stephen Lee; and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Christopher. Visiting hours will be held Thursday morning, September 2nd from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. |
