Obituary for Richard Neil Brown

Richard Neil (Dick) Brown, 87, of Carlisle, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Dick leaves his wife of 57 years, M. Clare (Glennon) Brown and daughter Alice (Brown) Clark and husband James of Acton, MA. He also leaves his two loving grandchildren, Megan Clark of Fort Collins, CO and Kevin Clark of Somerville, MA.

Dick was born in Winchendon, MA, son of the late Charles and Martha (Mathiot) Brown. He was raised in Athol, MA attending local schools and was a graduate of Athol High School. A Korean War Veteran, he served as musician first class in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1952. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University and began his long career as a physicist at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratory in 1956. He attained his Master’s Degree from M.I.T. while he was employed there. He went to work for the U.S. Air Force Geophysics Laboratory at Hanscom Air Force Base in 1967 and retired in 1993.

Dick and his wife Clare have spent many wonderful years in Carlisle. Dick enjoyed skiing and playing tennis in his younger years. He loved several European trips with his wife and cherished any time spent with family, especially in recent years with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., Acton, MA. A Rosary Vigil will be held during visitation at 6pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton, MA. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, Carlisle, MA.
