Obituary for Elaine R. (Clark) Murphy
MAYNARD: Elaine R. (Clark) Murphy, a long time Maynard resident and retired Vice President of the former BayBank in Lincoln, MA, died peacefully Wed. Sept. 6, 2017 at The Highlands in Fitchburg, MA after a period of declining health. She was 88.
Born in Concord and raised in Maynard, she was the only child of the late Ralph F. and Rose (Tobin) Clark. A graduate of Maynard High School, she was first employed at the United Co-Op and later at Manning’s Pharmacy, both in Maynard. She began her career as a teller with BayBank in the early 1970s, working her way up to become the Vice President of the branch in Lincoln. Mrs. Murphy was a communicant and former choir member at St. Bridget’s Parish in Maynard. She loved to cook and spend time on the phone with her friends. In later years Mrs. Murphy enjoyed swimming at the Thoreau Club and was active for a time with the Stow Senior Citizens Club, attending the activities and assisting with bookkeeping.
Mrs. Murphy was the wife of the late Albert R. Murphy, Jr. to whom she was married for 60 years at the time of his passing in 2007. She is survived by their children, Ruth Ann Riley of Harvard, MA, John “Jack” Murphy and wife Diane of Pepperell, MA, Walter Murphy and wife Dr. Geralyn Cejka of Boxborough, MA and Ellen McAleer and husband Steven of Maynard; sister-in-law Patricia Sewell; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.
All are invited to visiting hours Tuesday September 12th, 2017 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, MA. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday September 13th at 10:00am in St. Bridget’s Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard. Burial in St. Bridget’s Cemetery will be private at a later date.
